Access denied error when posting photos to site feed

Have you ever bumped into the “Access denied” error when posting photos to SharePoint site feed?

The ULS logs will report something like this:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access denied., StackTrace:
at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPFolderCollection.AddInternal(String strUrl, Int32 userId)
at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileGlobal.GetOrCreatePictureFolder(String mySiteHostUrl, ProfileType profileType, Boolean createIfNotFound, Boolean forFeedAttachment)…

And

ProfileImageStore.SaveUploadedFile: Exception: System.Threading.ThreadAbortException:…

Running this Powershell command should fix it up:

$webApp = Get-SPWebApplication "<my site web app>"

$webApp.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity("<portal app pool account>")

Please contact us know should this not fix the issue.
