Since launching in 2023, Microsoft Copilot has had a transformative impact on workplaces everywhere. Last month at the Microsoft Build conference, upcoming Copilot updates were announced which stand to further enhance productivity and quality of output for organisations of all sizes.
Read on to learn about the new Team Copilot and Copilot Studio feature releases, as well as recent developments to Copilot for Microsoft 365 and SharePoint.
Team Copilot: Revolutionising Team Collaboration
Expanding on Microsoft’s existing AI assistant capabilities, Team Copilot is a new feature announced for Copilot for Microsoft 365 subscribers, focused on helping your team be more productive, creative and collaborative. Acting as a virtual project manager and meeting assistant, Team Copilot supports group collaboration through:
- Meeting Facilitation: Team Copilot can be added to meetings and group chats, where it takes on roles such as creating agendas, tracking time, and taking notes.
- Issue Resolution: It helps identify and resolve open issues by surfacing important information and making recommendations based on relevant documents.
- Project Management: It helps projects run smoothly by tracking action items and addressing unresolved issues, so your team can stay focused on their tasks without the administrative burden.
Team Copilot will be available for Copilot for Microsoft 365 customers to preview later in 2024.
Copilot Studio: Empowering Custom AI Solutions
Another key announcement was the introduction of Copilot Studio, a platform designed for developers to create and customise their own Copilot models and applications. Leveraging Microsoft’s Azure Machine Learning and Cognitive Services, Copilot Studio is a cloud-based service that allows:
- Custom AI Development: Copilot Studio provides the tools needed to build, train, test, and deploy AI models using Azure AI. This includes creating bespoke solutions tailored to specific tasks and domains, enhancing the functionality and relevance of AI within an organisation.
- Integration and Automation: Developers can integrate data from various sources and automate workflows, making it easier to deploy comprehensive AI solutions that meet unique business needs.
Updates to Copilot for SharePoint and Microsoft 365
In addition to these new feature launches, Microsoft announced the following updates to their Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Copilot integrations.
Copilot for Microsoft 365
Since its release, Copilot for Microsoft 365 has been integrated across applications like Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams, providing users with real-time AI assistance for writing, data analysis, task management and more. To support this, Microsoft’s standalone Copilot application now includes all Microsoft 365 capabilities, grounded in users’ work contexts and ensuring personalised and secure experiences.
With nearly 60% of Fortune 500 companies now using Copilot and global adoption growing, Copilot for Microsoft 365 is quickly becoming a staple in the modern workplace.
Copilot for SharePoint
Now available in Microsoft’s Early Access Program, developers can create custom copilots for SharePoint, which can be shared across Microsoft 365 apps like Teams. These copilots can integrate with various data sources and manage tasks – such as sending invitations or updating documents – to improve content creation and management, making SharePoint an even more powerful tool for collaboration.
These announcements from Microsoft Build 2024 highlight the continuous evolution of Microsoft Copilot and its expanding capabilities. From enhancing collaborative efforts with Team Copilot to empowering developers with Copilot Studio alongside deep integration across the Microsoft ecosystem, these innovations are set to revolutionise the way we work.
